Woman At Point Zero by Nawal El-Saadawi - Spoiler Free Review

Hi there! I finished this amazing, but heart-wrenching, book last night and I'm a writing a review for it! Enjoy. 😌

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

SynopsisFrom her prison cell, Firdaus, sentenced to die for having killed a pimp in a Cairo street, tells of her life from village childhood to city prostitute. Society's retribution for her act of defiance - death - she welcomes as the only way she can finally be free.

Personal review: I really enjoyed this. This book felt so real, I'm actually wondering if it's a true story or not. It was a really short read, but it still took me a couple of days to finish. The whole time you read this book, you already know what the faith of Firdaus is, so it's pretty heartbreaking. It's hard to read most of the time. I'm going to tell you guys that there are close to none happy moments. Do not read this thinking it will be a sweet contemporary for summer time! IT'S NOT. It portrayed what a lot of woman has to go through, and Nawal wrote it perfectly. It's really sad to see the reality of life, but it helped me have an even more opened mind for these kind of situations.

This is the kind of book they should make people read in high school, even if it's a dark subject. This book needs to be more out there!

What I liked the most about the book: It's realistic. A lot.

This was a short review, but there's really nothing I can tell you without spoiling, other than it's beautifully heartbreaking. I hope you enjoyed reading, and that you'll want to check out this book for yourself!
