The Upside of Unrequired by Becky Albertalli - Spoiler Free Review

Hello! It's time to talk about one of my favorite books of all time.... THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUIRED. I am completely in love with this book, and I'm going to tell you why..... 😄

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Molly Peskin-Suso knows all about unrequited love—she’s lived through it twenty-six times. She crushes hard and crushes often, but always in secret. Because no matter how many times her twin sister, Cassie, tells her to woman up, Molly can’t stomach the idea of rejection. So she’s careful. Fat girls always have to be careful. Then a cute new girl enters Cassie’s orbit, and for the first time ever, Molly’s cynical twin is a lovesick mess. Meanwhile, Molly’s totally not dying of loneliness—except for the part where she is. Luckily, Cassie’s new girlfriend comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick. Will is funny and flirtatious and just might be perfect crush material. Maybe more than crush material. And if Molly can win him over, she’ll get her first kiss and she’ll get her twin back. There’s only one problem: Molly’s coworker Reid. He’s an awkward Tolkien superfan with a season pass to the Ren Faire, and there’s absolutely no way Molly could fall for him. Right? 🤔

Personal Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. 💖 It's exactly the kind of fluffy contemporary I love. I related so much to Molly's feelings. There's a time where she felt jealous, and I was feeling jealous with her because I wanted her to be happy! It's crazy. Some books make me feel lots of emotions and this one is one of them books. In this book, there is everything a contemporary needs. There is fluffiness, cute moments, funny moments. There's also mental health and LGBT representation, and what makes this even better is that these two struggles aren't the main topics. Like Becky Albertalli doesn't focus mainly on those subject, she just adds them in the story like it's not even a difference and I absolutely LOVE THAT. Some authors tries too hard to add important issues into books, when they should just add them in the story like it's completely normal (well it is something normal, but no need to call out every single problem)... Does this make sense? I hope so, I'm very bad at explaining haha! I just love the way Becky added these topics so naturally. 😌

Continuing with the personal thoughts... Molly is literally me. ♥️Like. It's kinda scary how we are the same person. She's fat (I'm kind of chubby), she takes medication for her mental health, she has never been kissed, she never had a relationship... Only crushes. Like... THIS IS ME (no The Greatest Showman pun intended lol). I want to thank Becky Albertalli for creating such a relatable character! 💗

ALSO... This book takes place in the freaking SIMONVERSE. I did not know that, I might have been living under a rock. Some Simon characters showed up through the book, which made me very happy because Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda is one of my all time faves! Can't wait to get into Leah On The Offbeat! 😀

☆ What I liked the most about this book: Don't make me choose. EVERYTHING. ☆

Other books by Becky Albertalli you should read: All of her books. Which are this one, Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat. She also have a book releasing in September, which I cannot wait for. It's a collaboration with another of my favorite authors, Adam Silvera, and it's going to be freaking amazing! Imagining this: A fluffy LGBT contemporary writer, combined with a deep LGBT contemporary writer.... AMAZING. 👏

Okay, this is so far my longest review but this book deserves it. What would be awesome is for Becky Albertalli to read this... But I'll keep dreaming! 🌠

Thank you for reading! 👀
